Koninginnedag 2009 turned out to be a sad day in Apeldoorn, in The Netherlands and in the whole world. At the end of the day we went to the centre of town, to have a few drinks and some food in Art Café ‘Sam Sam’ and watched a show by a duo called ‘The Old Bridge’. Emile celebrated his 50th birthday in three days. We witnessed the second day. First, we had a great breakfast in café ‘Substitute’ in Ede. After that we all drove to Veenendaal where The Steel Breeze (Pink Floyd tribute band) performed. Finally, back to Ede for the afterparty in ‘Substitute’. Thankz Emile and Cynthia for the lovely day!

Vrijdagavond 20 februari vierden we weekend met Robert & Marja en Auke & hidihi. In ‘Sinni’ aten we weer de heerlijkste Turkse mezze. Na afloop dronken we nog iets in café ‘De Flierefluiter’, waar de Beter R. de Vries Band een optreden gaf.

Mangrove played the small Bluescafé stage once again! There was a special occasion: there were new songs from their upcoming album ‘Beyond Reality’. During the show, everyone in the audience got a little present: a promo singlecd with the title track of the album.

The Adrian Power Trio played a short but very inspired set of rocking guitar tunes! Adrian really enjoyed himself onstage. He ‘gierde de bocht uit’! Although it was mainly the same song material from the tours in the past three years, it still sounded fresh. After the show I met up with tour manager André Chalmondeley (also guitar player in Zappa cover band Project/Object), and a bit later with the entire band. Later that night we had a drink with Adrian in café ‘De Zwarte Draak’ in Den Haag. What a nice man! (There are links to my youtube movies at the bottom of this post.)

Frank Zappa coverband trad op met speciale gast Napoleon Murphy Brock, die bij Zappa zelf in de band speelde van 1973 tot en met 1976. Met een Pink Floyd coverband in het voorprogramma (die pas een half jaar samen speelden – dit was hun derde concert – maar wat klonk het gaaf) speelde SY de sterren van de hemel. En dat alles op de bovenverdieping van een grote boerenschuur met een wel heel raar podium. Ondanks de lange reis erheen (dank aan ke voor het rijden en Lilian voor gezelschap) was dit de moeite waard: mooie muziek en weer veel bekenden en nieuwe mensen ontmoet! This Frank Zappa coverband played this evening with special guest Napoleon Murphy Brock, who played in Zappa’s band from 1973 till 1976. The opening band was a Pink Floyd coverband that had formed only a half year ago – this was their third concert ever – but did this sound good! Then Sheik Yerbouti played a fantastic set. It all happened on the second floor of a large farmer’s barn with a curious stage. This concert was worth the long journey to get to it (thankz to ke for driving and to Lilian for the company): good music and the chance to meet lots of familiar and new people!
